Going by MY standards for a Cy Young winner, I would give the award to Roy Halladay. Halladay is the anchor of a pitching staff for a team that has the best record in all of baseball, and Mr. Kershaw, who WILL win the award pitches for a Dodgers team that finished the season 11.5 games out of the NL West lead.
But Cy Young voters PROVED last season that you don’t have to play on a winning team or even win a lot of games to take home the hardware wen they awarded the AL Cy Young to Felix Hernandez despite the fact that Hernandezwon only 13 games, was only 1 win over .500, and pitched for the despicably bad Seattle Mariners.
So the award goes to Clayton Kershaw who went 21-5, with a 2.28 ERA, 248 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 0.98. Kershaw won the NL’s pitching triple crown by leading the NL in wins, K’s, and ERA.
I miss the days when things that a player achieved had to help their team win in order for them to be rewarded….
You wouldn’t give the World Series MVP to a player from the losing team, would you?
That is why there IS a World Series MVP award for a player on a winning team. The Cy Young should go to the pitcher who is most deserving, and that is Clayton Kershaw.
I really can’t even with this THE ONLY TEAMS THAT MATTER ARE WORLD SERIES TEAMS logic someone hold my fucking drink
LEMME PUT THIS IN TINY WORDS FOR YOU: HALLADAY? DID NOT. HAVE. THE SEASON. THAT. CLAYTON. DID. THE PHILLIES? DID NOT. PROVIDE FOR HALLADAY. THE SUPPORT. THAT THE DODGERS. PROVIDED. CLAYTON. AND VICE MOTHERFUCKIN VERSA. 21 VICTORIES IS HELPING A TEAM. THE 99% OF BASEBALL PLAYED THAT IS NOT WORLD SERIES BASEBALL MATTERS.
SORRY CLAYTON OUTSHONE ALL THE OTHERS EVEN IN A LOSING SEASON AND SORRY HE’LL DO IT AGAIN EXCEPT I’M NOT SORRY AND HALLADAY HAS HIS 2 OTHER CY YOUNGS TO KEEP HIM WARM HE’LL BE OK
“One of my main goals is being a winner, being the last man standing after winning it all,” he says with a grin. “And I want to stay here. This is home. I can’t see myself playing for anybody else. I only know blue; I’ve never worn different color cleats in my life.” -Matt Kemp
